Center-console buyers will have a lot to compare
The current 2026 Annapolis list includes dozens of center-console and offshore models across brands such as Grady-White, Regulator, Scout, Sea Pro, Cobia, Contender, Everglades, Jupiter, Sea Hunt, Tidewater and Valhalla. The right “best” boat depends on whether the mission is hardcore fishing, family use, speed, luxury or year-round Chesapeake boating.
Five center-console types to study
1. Premium offshore benchmark: Grady-White Canyon 336
The confirmed Canyon 336 is a useful reference for buyers who want offshore capability plus family-friendly seating and established Mid-Atlantic support. Compare its open-air helm environment directly against enclosed alternatives.
2. Fishing-first benchmark: Regulator 31
Regulator’s confirmed 31 belongs on the list for buyers who care about offshore ride, fishing layout and straightforward center-console purpose. It is especially useful as a contrast to the Nord Star 31+ because the two boats prioritize very different missions at similar nominal size.
3. Luxury center console: Scout 330 LXF
The show list includes Scout models, including the 330 LXF. Scout blends fishing utility with premium finishes, forward seating and strong entertainment credentials. It is a good test of how far an open center console can stretch toward family luxury before an enclosed boat becomes the more logical format.
4. Larger multi-mission offshore boats
Confirmed Everglades, Cobia, Valhalla, Jupiter and Pursuit models expand the range into faster, larger and more heavily powered platforms. Buyers should look beyond horsepower and compare protection, storage, low-speed handling and the ease of getting family members aboard.
5. Value-focused center consoles
Sea Pro, Sea Hunt, Tidewater, Key West, Bulls Bay and others let buyers test whether they actually need the premium-brand price tier to satisfy the core mission.
Additional confirmed offshore benchmarks
The live list has continued to fill out. Buyers should also look for Regulator 35 and 37, Boston Whaler 36 Outrage, Pursuit S358 and other large offshore center-console/sport platforms. Those boats make the year-round question more useful: the larger and more expensive the open boat becomes, the more important it is to decide whether cockpit capacity or full weather isolation will actually determine how often your family uses it.
The Chesapeake-specific test
Ask every center-console salesperson the same question: “What does this boat look like for my family on a 50-degree October morning with 15–20 knots across the Bay?” The answer may be canvas, wings, curtains, heated seats or simply accepting exposure. None of those answers is inherently wrong—but they should be compared against a true enclosed wheelhouse before you decide what “year-round” means.

Our recommendation for serious buyers
Pick three center consoles at different price/mission points, then board at least one enclosed European or Downeast boat before you leave the show. That prevents category anchoring—the tendency to compare only among boats that look familiar.
